Breakfast matters. In fact, if you are trying to lose
weight, breakfast is the most important meal of the
day.  Why? Why is eating breakfast the key to
losing those extra pounds?

The answer lies in your metabolism.  You see, your
body is on a fast between the time you go to sleep
and the time you wake up. That is why the first
meal of the day is called "breakfast", meaning you
break the fast.  

Because you have been fasting during the night,
your metabolism slows down.  This always
happens during any time you fast or you go on  a
starvation diet. The body responds by hanging on
to every single calorie because it believes that you
are starving.  

So, because you "fast" during the night for 8
hours, your body goes into a starvation mode. It
shuts down your metabolism to conserve energy.  
You burn fewer calories.  

If you don't break the fast by eating breakfast,
your metabolism stays slow and sluggish during
the entire day. As a result, you gain weight more
easily.

Studies have shown that people who consume
more of their calories at breakfast lose more
weight.
