Are There Any Foods That Speed Up Metabolism and Help You Lose Weight?

In our endless battle to lose weight, most of us have had to give
up some foods that we really love. Because dieting is all about
giving something up, most of us dread the word "diet".  But are
there foods which we can add to our diets that actually help us
lose weight?  Are there any foods which speed up metabolism?

It turns out, the answer is yes.  There are foods which research
has shown actually speed up the metabolic processes.

Here is a list of foods that speed up your metabolism:

1.
Peppers.  Peppers contain a substance called capsaicin.
Capsaicin is what makes peppers "hot".  One study has shown
that capsaicin speeds  up metabolism . However, only the very
hot peppers --such as jalapeno peppers or the peppers in Thai
food--seem to work.

2.
Curry.  Curry powder, used extensively in Indian food, speeds
up your metabolism.

3.
Coffee. Coffee, tea and some soda drinks contain caffeine
which is a natural stimulant that speeds up the metabolism.
Careful, though, excess coffee will disrupt sleep patterns.

4.
Olive Oil. Another food that can help you lose weight is olive
oil. How does olive oil help you lose weight? Olive oil does not
speed up the metabolism. It helps you lose weight by slowing
down your digestion. If you eat a bit of "good" oil (meaning it
has no saturated fat such as butter) such as olive oil at the
beginning of a meal, the oil moves through the system, and stops
at the beginning of the small intestine.  In effect it acts as a
"stopper" or a "plug" does in your bathtub. It then slows down
the further digestion of other food, and you feel full longer.

One great way to add both olive oil and peppers to your diet is
to "flavor" olive oil with hot peppers. Just add red peppers to a
bottle. Pour olive oil over the peppers and cap the oil.  Let it
stand in the refrigerator. After a week, you will have produced a
spicy hot oil that you can add to your salads, fish preparations
and over broiled or grilled chicken, turkey burgers or meats.

5.
Cinnamon. Cinnamon has been shown to increase your body's
ability to metabolize sugars. As a result, your blood sugar levels
have fewer of the "spikes" which can trigger cravings that
sabotage your diet.  Add a little cinnamon to your hot oatmeal in
the mornings. Add a cinnamon stick to your tea.

As a general matter, sugar is your enemy. Sugar sets your body
up for cravings by throwing the delicate insulin mechanisms out
of balance. Cravings are the reason most people fail to lose
weight.  A simple
free diet designed to keep your sugar spikes
under control gives you the best chance to stay on your diet
longer and thus lose more weight overall.
